Kevin Garnett criticizes Wemby for being 'too emotional' after reaching the NBA Finals

Garnett Critiques Wembanyama’s Emotional Celebration

Victor Wembanyama expressed deep emotions after his team, the Spurs, secured victory against the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. Following the game, he embraced his teammates, tears flowing as he celebrated reaching the NBA Finals. However, Kevin Garnett had a different perspective, suggesting the young Spurs star was getting carried away with his emotions.

“He was crying during what I thought was a pretty tough Western Conference Finals. I mean, it feels premature to celebrate so much right now,” Garnett commented during a podcast. He added that, “We need to keep our composure.”

The Spurs triumphed over the Thunder 111-103 in Game 7, marking their first NBA Finals appearance in two years, following a dismal 22-60 season in 2014.

Shortly after the game, Wembanyama was awarded the Conference Finals MVP, and deservedly so. Throughout the series, he averaged 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.7 blocks per game. In the decisive Game 7, he scored 22 points and grabbed 7 boards.

This 7-foot-4 player was instrumental in leading San Antonio to an impressive 62-20 record during the regular season. He also earned a spot as a finalist for the regular season MVP award, finishing with career-best averages of 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds.

As the Spurs look ahead, an even bigger celebration might be on the horizon. They will kick off the NBA Finals at home against the Knicks this Wednesday night. It’s worth noting that New York is making its first finals appearance since 1999, while San Antonio is aiming for its sixth championship title, having previously won five between 1999 and 2014.
