Controversial Victory for England Against Norway

In a dramatic twist during the World Cup quarter-finals, England’s 2-1 victory over Norway has raised eyebrows. A pivotal moment occurred when Jude Bellingham leveled the score, seemingly after the ball brushed against a camera cable.

Erling Haaland’s father, Alfie, expressed his displeasure, suggesting that Norway had been treated unfairly. Responding to a post from journalist Henry Winter, he remarked, “Really? Goodbye, you’re saved,” conveying a sense of grievance over the officiating.

Haaland noted, “I want you to win the WC. But today I feel like I got robbed.” His words reflect a broader sentiment among Norway’s team, who strongly protested the goal, feeling their chances had been compromised.

According to FIFA regulations, the game should have been paused if the ball indeed struck the cable. Yet, FIFA maintained there was no proof of the incident, emphasizing that their sensors did not register any disturbance in the ball’s path until it landed at the feet of England’s Elliott Anderson, sparking a counterattack.

Norwegian coach Stale Solbakken, however, was not satisfied with FIFA’s explanation after the match, declaring it “pretty clear” that Bellingham’s goal shouldn’t have counted. He pointed out how the ball appeared to fall directly to Anderson.

This wasn’t the first time FIFA’s decisions stirred controversy. A previous incident in the Round of 32 also involved a contentious call, where Croatia’s goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling following a slight touch that influenced play.
