President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday night nominated several more candidates for various positions during his second term.
He named Kali Lake the next director of the state-run U.S. government broadcaster Voice of America. Lake, a longtime broadcaster in Arizona, ran unsuccessfully for public office in 2022 and 2024.
“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will be the next director of Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and will work closely with, the soon-to-be-announced next Director of the U.S. Agency for Global Media. . We will ensure that American values of liberty and freedom are broadcast fairly and accurately around the world, unlike the lies spread by the fake news media,” President Trump said in a statement.
Voice of America is an influential broadcast channel providing news, information and cultural programming in more than 40 languages on the internet, mobile, social media, radio and television.

President Trump also nominated Dr. Peter Lamelas, a physician, philanthropist, and businessman, to be the next U.S. ambassador to Argentina. Mr. Lamelas immigrated to the United States from Cuba and founded MD Now Urgent Care in Florida, the state's largest emergency medical system.
“As a child, Peter and his family fled communist Cuba, legally immigrated to the United States, and achieved the American Dream by starting with nothing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Ramelas was appointed to the Justice Department's Medal of Valor Review Committee during the Trump administration's first term, and also served as a town commissioner in Manalapan, Florida, and a member of the state's medical board.

Also Wednesday night, President Trump announced law enforcement veteran Daniel Newlin as the next U.S. ambassador to Colombia. In addition to his 28-year career as a fugitive detective with the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff's Office, Newlin is a business owner and entrepreneur.
“With his law enforcement expertise that enables him to address complex international issues, and his business acumen that promotes economic partnerships, Mr. Newlin is a strong advocate for America's national interests and a strong advocate for strengthening our relationships and working with the world,” Trump said. “I stand as an advocate for change,” he wrote. .
