Former President Donald Trump was declared victorious by the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday. announced They could take up the issue of presidential immunity and postpone criminal trials until after the election.
The court said it would consider “whether, and if so, to what extent, a former president enjoys presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for acts he allegedly engaged in in the course of his official duties while in office.”
Special Counsel Jack Smith urged the court to avoid delaying the trial to fulfill the “unique national importance” to the public interest.
The matter will be taken up in court the week of April 22nd.
Even if the Supreme Court rules against Trump, it would take months to issue a ruling. Many on the left took the decision as confirmation that the country’s highest court was involved in a massive conspiracy to sway the former president’s election.

At least one Democrat tried to find a bright side to the announcement. Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California predicted this would give Democrats an incentive to come to the polls and defeat Trump.
“My take on the SCOTUS case: If the trial is delayed until after November, we will see the biggest blue wave in history.” Mr. Liu tweeted. “If there is a referendum on whether President Trump faces justice in November, Democrats will undoubtedly flip the House, keep the White House, and expand the Senate.”
NBC News billed the announcement as a political and rhetorical victory as well as a legal victory for Trump.
If the Supreme Court grants President Trump immunity, the charges will be dropped.
