Mamdani Calls for End to ICE Operations After Shooting in Bronx
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, announced that he has reached out to President Donald Trump, demanding the termination of all immigration enforcement activities in the city following another shooting incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Mamdani described the situation in which ICE agents surrounded a vehicle in the Bronx and opened fire, wounding a man. Fortunately, a 5-year-old child who was also in the car escaped unharmed. The shooting reportedly took place in a residential area known as Marble Hill.
In his statement on social media, Mamdani expressed his outrage, stating, “This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city.” He added that he would not remain passive while ICE agents “terrorize our communities.” The mayor extended his thoughts to the injured individual and his family, wishing them a speedy recovery.
Moreover, Mamdani stressed, “Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE.”
The New York Police Department confirmed that the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. and clarified that they were not involved or present during the incident. The victim is currently in a nearby hospital but is conscious and receiving medical care.
Footage has emerged showing anti-ICE demonstrators obstructing federal vehicles in response to the shooting. Reports from CBS News indicate that the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Sources revealed to CBS that ICE was attempting to apprehend another individual when the injured man intervened and was shot.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul, also a Democrat, issued a statement about the shooting. She indicated that she has been informed about the incident involving federal law enforcement agents and expects a full and transparent account of what transpired. “New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why,” she stated.
