Man stabbed at NYC migrant encampment by Randall’s Island shelter weeks after deadly shooting nearby

A man was stabbed in the abdomen outside a migrant shelter on Randalls Island in New York City, just two weeks after a deadly shooting took place in the same location.

Around 10:33 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a 911 call of an assault at 82 Randall’s Island Field in the 25th Precinct.

A New York Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that when officers arrived on the scene they found a 26-year-old male victim suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.

EMS transported the victim to the New York City Health Department and Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing,” the spokesman added on Monday.

Last week, police conducted drug and weapons searches at the Randalls Island migrant shelter and forced the roughly 3,000 adults held there to wait outside, but police said no illegal items were found in a search Aug. 2. Migrants have reached the limit of their stay at the shelter and are setting up tents and camping just outside, despite warnings from officials that camping is prohibited.

Migrants who spoke to CBS News said the increased police presence at the Randalls Island shelter has done little to deter illegal activity.

“It’s very dangerous,” Venezuelan migrant Pilar Lopez told CBS in Spanish. “People are passing illegal things in front of us. [officers] And they do nothing.”

The decision to search the shelter came after authorities said an innocent bystander staying at the facility was shot and killed during an overnight rally outside near the shelter. Two others were wounded.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 29th at Wards Meadow Loop Field 71. Fox 5 New York Reported.

A 44-year-old woman died from shots in the face and neck, a 32-year-old man was shot in the throat and a 31-year-old man was shot in the back, but both survived.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, but police have seized cars and mopeds linked to the migrants.

Deputy Mayor Ann Williams-Isom said at a press conference last Tuesday that officials were trying not to be “heavy-handed” in dispersing campers who were evicted from the shelters.

“That’s not OK. Again, we’re not trying to be high-handed. But if the time goes on and the case management is over and you have to leave, you really have to move on,” Williams-Isom said.

Mamadou Bah, a migrant from Guinea, told CBS he hopes the city will do more to help him find a job because he is still waiting for his work permit.
