James O'Keefe claims Meta-Engineer admitted in a candid interview with an undercover journalist from O'Keefe Media Group that Facebook demotes anti-Kamala Harris posts.
Jeevan Gyawali, a senior software engineer at Meta, revealed in a hidden camera interview that accounts that post anti-Kamala Harris content can be shadowbanned at the same time as their posts are demoted. It seems so.
“Let's say your uncle from Ohio says something about Kamala Harris not being fit to be president because she doesn't have kids. That kind of nonsense is an automatic demote,” Gyawali said in a heavily edited version. Apparently he said it in a video.
Mr. Gyawali also appeared to say that the person “will not be notified,” which amounts to a shadow ban. Poster engagement and impressions may decrease. He also appeared to be talking about how Meta's “Integrity Team” moderates content through something called a “civil classifier,” a system meant to shadowban users. .
“We have an honest team,” he said. “This seems like a pretty important team, and they're building all these classifiers.”
He then said: “The basic level of defense that Facebook is building right now is… they're building something called a citizen classifier, which is a large model that's trained on citizen content and detects it as citizen content. Anything that is done is like being demoted.”
“That means that anything related to political content will not automatically appear,” he added when asked to define a “civic classifier.”
“A SWAT team has already been established since April…to consider all possible scenarios in which the platform could be misused.” Gyawali is also an undercover journalist.
Gyawali also appeared to acknowledge Meta's ability to influence the 2024 election, an effort backed by founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. he added.
As James O'Keeffe admitted, the undercover journalist had set up a date with Gyawali on the dating app Bumble, so it's unclear whether his claims were solid fact or if he was interested in his own deal. Whether it was slightly embellished to emphasize the date remains to be seen. O'Keefe claims that when he contacted Gyawali for comment, he responded, “Oh, shit” before hanging up.
