Sen. Mallory McMorrow Suspends Senate Campaign
Sen. Mallory McMorrow, a Democrat from Michigan, announced on Sunday that she is suspending her campaign for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by fellow Democrat Gary Peters.
A recent poll conducted by Steve Mitchell of Mitchell Research and Communications revealed that McMorrow’s approval rating had plummeted to just 6%. In a message shared on X, McMorrow expressed her gratitude to supporters and staff following her decision.
“Today, I am announcing that I am suspending my campaign for U.S. Senate. And I do this with a deep, deep sense of gratitude,” she stated. “To the thousands of volunteers who gave what they could, including building a campaign without corporate PAC money. To the staff who built this team from the ground up. Thank you.”
While McMorrow has not yet endorsed either of her rivals, Democratic Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens or left-wing candidate Abdul El-Sayed, concerns linger among some Democrats about El-Sayed’s chances in the general election.
“Thank you, Senator McMorrow, her family, staff, and supporters for your dedication to our democracy,” El-Sayed said in a Sunday post. He noted how party insiders have pressured those who oppose their chosen candidate. “I look forward to working with her in the future to build a stronger Michigan for everyone,” Stevens added in her remarks.
Following an incident in April 2025, McMorrow deleted thousands of posts on X that had been critical of Michigan, a move highlighted by a recent report from the New York Post.
McMorrow became a national figure in 2022 after delivering a powerful speech on the Michigan Senate floor, criticizing Republicans for opposing reproductive rights and gender transition for minors. The speech, which resonated widely, received commendation from influential Democratic strategist James Carville.
“I am a straight, white, Christian, married suburban mother…I am the greatest threat to your empty, hateful agenda,” she declared during her address, which sparked discussions on targeted policies affecting marginalized groups.
Additionally, McMorrow faced scrutiny for allegedly failing to accurately report campaign expenditures exceeding $500,000, as noted by an account associated with former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, who narrowly lost a Senate race last year. A video celebrating McMorrow’s campaign was shared on social media.
