In a new video, Michigan's left-leaning Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson warned local officials to certify the election results, mocked those who question the government's account and portrayed the government as the arbiter of truth.
Earlier this month, Benson partnered with Recount to create a video responding to a series of “angry election tweets,” which Recount says is a “far-left” outlet. Midwesternersand Website Their slogan is “No lies. No malice. And no wasted time.”
“She would have been much more comfortable in Nazi Germany.”
In the recount video, Benson addressed some of the issues that social media users had mentioned online. One X user, identified as Joan Crawford's Eyebrows, asked whether Michigan county officials might not want to “certify” the election results. Benson made it clear: “They have no choice.”
“If anybody breaks the law and doesn't certify the election at the local level, we're going to get you,” Benson said, looking directly into the camera.
“So to any local certifiers out there thinking about getting around the law and not certifying votes, don't think about it, because we're going to get you.”
She pointed to problems in Wayne County, home to the city of Detroit, in 2020, alleging that county officials were “pressured” not to certify the results.
In response to a request for comment from The Blaze-News, Republican state Sen. Jim Runestad similarly referenced Wayne County's problems in 2020, arguing that the county's results were never “lawfully certified” because “71% of the absentee ballot counting boards in Detroit were found to be 'unbalanced.'”
“Under current law, if a local elections official does not certify the results of an election, no one can go to jail,” Runestad continued in a statement to The Blaze News. “Instead, all election records are sent to the state elections board, which reviews them and makes any necessary determinations. After these determinations, county elections officials are given the opportunity to certify the results based on the 'revised vote count.'”
Benson has threatened to prosecute local election officials and repeatedly mocked people who push back against efforts by herself, Attorney General Dana Nessel and other Michigan officials to limit so-called misinformation about the election.
When a user named Winchester Colt expressed concern that Benson was “trying to silence people who don't follow the official government line,” Benson seemed perplexed by the notion of a “government line,” joking that he “has no idea what Winchester Colt had for breakfast.”
But shortly after revealing his ignorance about state government reporting, Benson urged his listeners to “please let us know” if they see any “election misinformation.”
“that [way] We can fix that and provide you with reliable information. Bottom line, we want you to know where to find reliable information about our elections… so that voters don't get fooled by lies about our election process.”
Benson had a similar response to another user, Donnie Detroit, who took issue with Benson's recent attempt to convince Michiganders to “snitch on their neighbors” for not following “government-sponsored truth.”
“There is no such thing as government-supplied truth,” she argued dismissively. “There is just the truth.”
But just seconds later, Benson argued that “the most reliable source of information is always your local elections official.”
Despite claiming that the government is the best source of truth about the election, Benson seemed surprised that Donnie Detroit criticized her for her obsession with what people think and say about the election, and suggested that he unfairly painted her as a “terrible person.”
“Oh, that sure sounds awful,” she said.
In response to a request for comment, Donnie Detroit told The Blaze News that Benson never defines misinformation in the video, but is nonetheless warning that “there's a lot of misinformation out there.” He described such behavior as “reminiscent of the Stasi in the East German era.”
“Benson is in the wrong country. He would have been much more comfortable in Nazi Germany or the Stasi in East Germany,” he continued.
As previously reported by The Blaze News, Governor Benson asked Michiganders to report “misleading or inaccurate information about voting or elections in Michigan” to the ominous email address “Misinformation@Michigan.gov.”
You can watch the entire Recount video featuring Benson below. hereIt lasts about 13 and a half minutes, with the section warning county election officials starting at the 3:40 mark.
