Los Angeles Officials Announce New Charges Following Riots
Officials in Los Angeles shared on Tuesday that over 40 people were charged last month due to violent riots linked to U.S. immigration enforcement actions.
Among those charged, there are serious accusations in two particular cases involving a 17-year-old boy, facing attempted murder charges, and another protester.
District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman mentioned, “The massive protests may have ended for now, but our job isn’t.”
New Accusations Arise in La Anti-Ice Riots
One of the suspects, a 17-year-old, faces a range of charges including attempted murder, vandalism, and attacking a peace officer, alongside a couple of misdemeanors.
Another individual, 37-year-old Patrick Munoz, is accused of using a flagpole aggressively during a rally outside a local hotel on June 11.
As for Munoz’s legal representation, no response from his attorneys was available at the time.
Prosecutors reported an incident involving 49-year-old Robert Amaya, who allegedly drew a knife while approaching an 11-year-old girl at the protest on June 10. If charged with assault using a deadly weapon and found guilty, he could face a significant prison term.
Fox News Digital was unable to locate an attorney for Amaya promptly.
Violent Protests Lead to Multiple Arrests
Another suspect, 29-year-old Iranian Castro, faces charges for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers and abusing animals during protests on June 14. If convicted, she’s looking at over a decade in prison.
In a separate case, 66-year-old Dana Whitson is accused of physically attacking a LASD horse at a protest on June 13, which could also lead to a considerable prison sentence if convicted.
Whitson’s attorneys, similar to Castro’s, had not responded to inquiries for comments yet.
Warnings from the DA on Violent Protests
As the situation escalates, the number of arrests continues to climb, reflecting weeks of clashes between protesters and riot police in Los Angeles. These protests have sparked widespread chaos related to immigration enforcement.
Hochman further emphasized the ongoing review of charges and shared his appreciation for the investigative teams working to ensure accountability for those actions masked as protests.
