The Los Angeles Rams welcomed their latest star on Tuesday, joining a city already brimming with talent.
It didn’t take long for Garrett to bring up his connection to another prominent figure in LA sports.
LeBron James.
Garrett and James have forged a close friendship over the years, largely stemming from their shared roots in Cleveland. One led the city to its first championship in over five decades, while the other became a key player for the Browns.
Their relationship has blossomed beyond mere admiration. Garrett has teamed up with Rich Paul’s Klutch Sports and even acquired a minority stake in the Cavaliers franchise.
During the offseason, Garrett trained with James, seeking his guidance when frustrations with the Browns reached a boiling point, ultimately prompting Garrett to ask for a trade.
In a show of support, LeBron congratulated Garrett last season for breaking the NFL’s single-season sack record.
Now both athletes call Los Angeles home.
“He’s been such a positive influence in my life,” Garrett shared at the Rams’ practice facility during his introductory press conference. “They offer me valuable advice and help me navigate various situations early in my career.”
Interestingly, Garrett playfully suggested that LeBron could consider a return to the Lakers for the next season.
Garrett joked, “Let’s see how long LBJ has been here. We’re not sure what his future looks like, but if he decides to stick around for a few more years, he’ll be welcomed with open arms.”
LeBron’s future, however, remains one of the biggest unknowns in the NBA. He’s officially a free agent and can sign with any team, leaving the door open for retirement or a fresh chapter with the Lakers. It’s a wide-open situation.
Garrett’s intentions are clear, though. He waived his no-trade clause and moved to Los Angeles with championship ambitions. Being in the same city as his longtime mentor brings him joy, as he’s eager to share the spotlight of this vibrant sports scene with LeBron for the seasons to come.
