A police officer was fatally shot in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
CBS News identified The officer, Detective Alan Reddins, 40, of the Oak Park Police Department, was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m.
ABC7 noticed Reddins responded to a report of a person coming out of the bank with a gun, police said. When Reddins arrived at the scene, shots were fired.
Reddins was shot in the left side and taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he died. The suspect was shot in the leg and taken to Loyola in good condition.
Reddins became the first Oak Park Police Department officer to die in the line of duty since 1938.
