Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown Silent When Asked if ‘Gas Cars Should Be Banned’

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), who is running for re-election against Trump-backed Republican businessman Bernie Moreno, was asked at the Capitol on Tuesday whether he thought gas-powered cars “should be banned.” There was silence.

In a video released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), a man off camera asks: Brown, do you think gasoline cars should be banned?” Brown and his staff march in silence.

“Do you support it? [Environmental Protection Agency] EPA decision to ban gasoline-powered vehicles,” the man followed up, apparently referring to federal regulations announced by President Joe Biden in March aimed at phasing out gasoline-powered vehicles. Brown did not respond.

Donald Trump Jr. retweeted the video, claiming that Brown couldn’t answer questions because he was “a Green New Deal radical who agrees with Biden!!!”

Biden’s federal environmental regulations “aim to begin phasing out gasoline-powered vehicles and require U.S. automakers to produce electric vehicles (EVs) as part of Biden’s broader green energy policy.” Breitbart News’ John Binder previously pointed out that

Moreno, who founded one of the largest auto groups in the United States, told Breitbart News on SiriusXM on Saturday. A few days later, he said, “This frenzied transition to electric vehicles will destroy the American auto industry.”

“If you look at the upcoming Buick electric cars, they’re almost all made in China. All the Lincoln electric cars are going to be made primarily in China. The batteries are made primarily in China. ” Moreno said. “So we’re handing over our auto industry, which at one time accounted for almost 7 percent of our gross domestic product (GDP), to our enemy, China. That’s insane.”

“There’s a company in China called BYD that people are going to hear a lot about,” the Trump-supporting candidate added. “They’re building these huge factories in Mexico, and they want to ship $15,000 to $20,000 electric cars to the United States that will decimate the U.S. auto industry. Sherrod Brown is all about it. We are working on it.”
