Pastor Jack Hibbs from California Calls on Christians to Leave the State Due to Concerning New Custody Legislation

Pastor Urges Californians to Leave if New Custody Bill Passes

Pastor Jack Hibbs from Calvary Chapel Chino Hills has issued a strong warning to Christians in California. He suggests that if a proposed bill allowing adults to obtain custody of children without parental consent passes, Christians should seriously consider leaving the state. “If this bill passes, I’m asking you to leave California,” Hibbs stated during a recent sermon. He emphasized the urgency, saying, “You have to pack your bags and go out. You have to leave. You have to run with your kids.”

The proposed legislation, known as the Family Preparation Planning Act of 2025, broadens the definition of “caregiver.” This new definition includes “adult caregivers who have established family or leadership relationships with their children.” Under this bill, caregivers can obtain custody simply by signing an affidavit.

Additionally, the bill empowers these caregivers to make significant medical decisions for the children, such as approving vaccinations and physical examinations. Reportedly, some see this legislation as problematic.

Hibbs highlighted that much of this situation stems from a lack of participation among Christians in California elections. “We are here, evil always fills up blanks or vacant spaces,” he noted, referencing a biblical saying. The implication is clear: inaction can lead to negative outcomes.

“We’d like to issue a statement against AB 495, which undermines parental rights. We’ll keep pushing back, or we will make noise,” he urged, encouraging his congregation to stand for righteousness.

To rally support, Hibbs announced a “Stop AB 495 Rally” at the State Capitol in Sacramento on August 19, aiming to gather at least 5,000 Christians to oppose the bill. He also recommended that his followers take time off work to prioritize this issue, particularly since he mentioned feeling under the weather that day.

He emphasized the importance of this cause and encouraged collective action: “I’m asking them to support what’s right and do the right thing.”

Furthermore, the California Senate Budget Committee is set to meet for discussions regarding AB 495 on August 18.
