Among all adults surveyed, Trump held a narrow lead over Biden, 46% to 44%. Among registered voters, Biden gained support with 46% of voters, compared to 45% for Trump.
According to polls, Trump’s hush money issue could cause some trouble for the former president among his own supporters. Eighty percent of Trump supporters said they would continue to support him even if he was found guilty in the New York case, while 16% said they would reconsider their support and 4% said they would no longer support him.
The poll also found that more Americans trust Trump to handle the economy and inflation than Biden.
Forty-six percent of those surveyed said they trusted Trump on the economy, and 32% said the same for Biden. Additionally, 44% of Americans said they trust Trump to tackle inflation, compared to 30% for Biden.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online between April 25 and 30 among 2,260 adults and has a margin of sampling error of 2 percentage points.
Other national polls also show the two leading candidates in a close race. Head-to-head averages from Hill/Decision Desk national polls show Biden and Trump each receiving about 45 percent support.
