Trump Commends DC Mayor for Crime Reduction Efforts
In a recent statement, President Trump lauded D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser for her efforts to address crime in the city. This came during a post on his Truth Social account where he highlighted the collaboration between her administration and federal law enforcement.
“Wow! DC Mayor Muriel Bowser was extremely popular because she worked to defeat crimes in which me and my great people were virtually nothing in DC,” he wrote, recognizing her positive approach compared to other leaders. He took jabs at the governors of Illinois, Maryland, and California, suggesting that instead of collaborating productively, they seemed to focus on justifying violent crime.
According to Trump, Bowser’s popularity surged by 25 percentage points since the partnership with federal law enforcement began on August 11. The precise source of this voting data, however, wasn’t clear.
At a press conference last Wednesday, Bowser expressed gratitude for the federal support, stating that carjackings had plummeted by 87% and all violent crimes fell by 45%. She emphasized how these statistics contributed to safer neighborhoods.
In a survey from the Washington Post, Bowser’s job approval was reported at 53%. Trump then posed a question regarding whether other major cities could achieve similar improvements if they collaborated effectively.
Last week, Trump mentioned that he might deploy National Guard troops to assist in states if requested by governors. He expressed willingness to work with New York Governor Kathy Hochul regarding security measures.
The National Guard in D.C. has supported local law enforcement efforts, although they haven’t made arrests. Since September 1, 165 illegal firearms have been confiscated, and there have been 1,599 arrests related to Trump’s crime crackdown.
Finally, Trump concluded his message by congratulating Bowser but reminded everyone that the victory in D.C. is ongoing. Notably, Bowser’s cooperation came in the aftermath of contentious actions taken by the Trump administration, such as the clearing of Black Lives Matter Plaza in March.
