Race, LGBTQ Jokes That Led to Shane Gillis’ ‘SNL’ Firing Resurface Ahead of His ‘SNL’ Return

Hosted by comedian Shane Gillis saturday night liveis once again under fire from fans unhappy with past comedy podcasts that engaged in off-color jokes that included racial epithets and derogatory comments about the LGBTQ community.

Gillis has always been known as an insult comic and has done some edgy comedy. Although he has many fans on his YouTube and his Netflix, he has recently begun to distance himself from the louder jabs he once deployed.

The change in focus came after he was famously hired and quickly fired. saturday night live In 2019, activists woke up and took a stand over NBC’s hiring of him despite his controversial past podcasts.

But now, SNL has welcomed Gillis as its solo host, prompting some to once again start combing through its comedy past to unearth its most controversial jokes.

Particularly recurrent are the parts where Gillis deploys the N-word, the homophobic F-word, and certain Jewish slurs.

Gillis has also been in the news elsewhere. He raised eyebrows by teaming up with boycotted beer brand Bud Light to help the beer shake off its disastrous relationship with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.

The partnership with Bud Light didn’t sit well with center-right fans who accused Gillis of selling out.
