Knicks Fans: A Mixed Reputation
When you think of Knicks fans, “patient” usually comes to mind. But one Chicago sports radio host has thrown a curveball into that perception.
Lawrence Holmes, who co-hosts a show on “104.3 The Score,” recently claimed that Knicks fans are actually the “most obnoxious” in American sports. It’s an interesting take coming from someone in Chicago, a city that has historically provided Knicks fans with their fair share of grief during the 1990s.
During a segment, Holmes made his bold statement, to which his co-host, Matt Spiegel, quickly disagreed, suggesting the St. Louis Cardinals as a contender for the title instead.
The banter continued with Holmes pointing out that the Cardinals have a legacy of success, implying they earned their pride. However, he contrasted that with Knicks fans, noting their long championship drought, stating, “we haven’t won anything since the Ford administration.”
As the discussion unfolded, Holmes seemed unfazed by the Knicks’ record. In a somewhat sardonic moment, he joyfully anticipated more losses for the team, saying, “I’m hoping for four more.” It’s a reminder that, for some, the rivalry and the jabs are part of the thrill of being a sports fan.
The show also touched on other teams, mentioning the Cowboys and their status as “America’s Team,” recognizing how they, too, would likely feature prominently in any obnoxious fan rankings.
On the brighter side for Knicks fans, the team recently took a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals after two wins in San Antonio, giving their loyal followers something to cheer about, despite the teasing from commentators.
