The U.S. Secret Service on Wednesday paid tribute to those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks, but accidentally included the names of the 19 hijackers in a now-deleted social media post.

“The flag raised at our headquarters is a solemn reminder of 9/11 and the purpose of our mission. In the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, hijackers took over four commercial airliners at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing 2,977 people.
The initial figure released by the Secret Service appeared to include 19 hijackers.

The post was removed and another was posted online with the correct number, “2,977.”
“This is a correction to an earlier post. Our original post incorrectly stated the total number of deaths from the September 11 attacks, including the hijackers. Our intention is only to commemorate the victims of that tragic day, and we deeply apologize for this error,” the Secret Service said. Posts.
