UFO Files and Theological Implications for Christians
Recent discussions about UFO files have ignited theories related to aliens and the implications of disclosure. An interview from 2023 has gained attention, featuring Jeremiah Roberts and Andrew Songkrant, the hosts of the Christian apologetics podcast “Cultish.” This program aims to analyze cults and controlled religious groups from various perspectives, including theological, sociological, and psychological.
During their appearance on the “Relatable” podcast, host Allie Beth Stuckey posed a direct question to them: Should Christians be worried about aliens and UFOs? Their responses offered some compelling insights.
Roberts and Songkrant argued that discussions about aliens shouldn’t be seen as taboo among Christians. They believe it’s a matter that warrants a biblical perspective. “All creation, both visible and invisible, was created by Christ,” Roberts stated, emphasizing that Christians should recognize the importance of addressing the conversation surrounding aliens and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) within a framework that acknowledges Christ’s dominion over all existence.
Quoting 1 Peter 3:15, Songkrant added, “We are to be prepared to provide an answer to anyone who asks about our hope.” He stressed the need for Christians to formulate reasonable defenses against the experiences and evidence related to these occurrences.
Songkrant voiced concern that if Christians shy away from engaging with popular culture, they inadvertently allow secular interpretations to dominate, often leading to conclusions that contradict a Biblical worldview. “Speaking out publicly aligns with God’s command,” he asserted.
Roberts recalled when he first launched “Cultish” in 2018; a friend of his, Colin Samle, a Presbyterian minister, urged him to prepare a presentation on aliens and UFOs. Samle anticipated an increasing mainstream focus on UFO discussions, encouraging a biblical engagement with the topic to help field audience questions.
Roberts reflected, “Much of what he warned me about has come to fruition.” Both he and Songkrant continue to engage with the UFO debate through a scriptural lens, providing thoughtful Christian responses to the increasing interest in non-human intelligence.
