Boyfriend seeking asylum in Ireland escapes after the violent killing of American mother

Tragic Incident in Killarney

A recent attack in the UK has resulted in the death of an American woman, adding to concerns about security and immigration.

On Tuesday, Irish police and emergency services responded to a call in Killarney, where they found the body of Jamie Carney, 43, from New York State. It was her 13-year-old daughter who discovered the scene in their rented home.

In light of the situation, officials are urging against any misuse of this tragedy for bigoted or racist agendas.

Following a post-mortem examination, state pathologist Linda Mulligan indicated that Carney had sustained severe head injuries in a brutal assault, but the cause of death was asphyxia. Carney had relocated to Ireland with her daughter in 2021.

The investigation is still in its infancy, but authorities have identified “persons of interest” who reportedly left the area just hours before Carney’s body was found. It appears that the main suspect, 28-year-old Ahmad Al Sakar, boarded a flight to Istanbul shortly before the discovery was made.

Irish police are currently collaborating with Europol and Interpol to track Al Sakar’s movements, pursuing leads to determine whether he remains in Turkey or has traveled elsewhere in the Middle East.

Al Sakar, originally from Jordan, is believed to have applied for asylum in Ireland after arriving in 2024. While asylum seekers are supposed to surrender their passports, authorities reportedly returned Al Sakar’s documents. This raised questions about the status of his application, which would provide protection for individuals facing serious harm if returned to their country.

Informants have indicated that Al Sakar knew Carney well and even stayed with her regularly, complicating matters as his DNA might be linked to their home if he is later questioned. Reports suggest that the two met during an anti-war protest.

On social media, Al Sakar referred to Carney as “my bride and my princess,” demonstrating the complexity of their relationship. Reports also indicate that he was with her shortly before the incident.

The U.S. Department of State has announced that it is providing assistance to Carney’s family during this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of the safety and security of American citizens abroad.

Concerns are growing that this event may fuel tensions within Ireland, particularly politically. Relatives, including Ryan Fox, a cousin of Carney, have expressed the desire for her death not to be politicized or used to promote a particular agenda. He urged others not to blame entire groups for the actions of individuals, reminding everyone that bad actors exist in all communities.
