Steve Harvey defends giving Kamala Harris easy questions to help admin ‘get the word out’

Comedian and pop culture personality Steve Harvey defended his sticking to simple questions during his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday.

Ms Harris spoke with Mr Harvey at the 100 Black Men of America conference in downtown Atlanta. The talk was not an official campaign event but came as the Biden campaign seeks to shore up black support ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Harvey explained his intentions to the audience as he led a conversation about Harris’ Economic Opportunity Tour.

“Before people start calling into my radio show and sending me direct messages asking why I’m not asking the tough questions, this isn’t about that,” Harvey said. “I’m throwing lobs. This is an alley-oop for a dunk. Because we need to let the public know what this administration is actually doing, what it’s actually accomplishing, so this stupid, ‘What are you doing for black people?'”

Harvey argued that the administration can’t expect to “go into the White House with a policy that is clearly just for black people. It has to be done differently. You all know what that is. So the next question is another lob for her to dunk.”

He then told black Americans that if they wanted anything from their government, they needed to vote.

“Look, I’m on this radio show and I hear people talking about, ‘If they’re not going to do anything for us, then I’m not going to vote,'” he said.

“Listen, if you don’t vote, the analysis shows that [it]”If you don’t vote, how are you going to ask for anything next time?” he said.

“If we don’t have the right to vote, then why are we even talking about reparations? No one is going to pay reparations? [if] “You think they’re going to give you money if you don’t vote? No way. I hope they give us money. They owe us. I’m going there!”
