Study: NFL Legend's Son Reportedly Harassed by Racist Bullies at Prestigious California Christian School

Family of NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson Sues California School

The family of NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson is taking legal action against a private school in California. They allege that the school failed to protect his sixth-grade son from ongoing racial slurs, bullying, and physical aggression, despite the parents raising concerns.

This lawsuit stems from the time the boy spent at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village during the 2024–2025 academic year. Identified as “DD,” the child, who is black, was eventually moved to a different school, as reported by the New York Post.

Filed last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the lawsuit accuses the school of negligence, emotional distress, and breaking California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act.

The family claims that other students frequently hurled the N-word at the boy, and that school officials did not respond adequately when they were informed. The family’s attorney, Robert Glassman, emphasized that both Dickerson and the boy’s mother sought help from the school, but the alleged harassment continued unchecked.

One incident reportedly took place during a school-organized field trip to a zoo. At that event, a classmate allegedly used racial slurs and compared the boy to an animal, according to the complaint mentioned by the Post.

Further, the lawsuit states that the same classmate had been known to bring a knife to school, yet the school administrators did not take action against him for the racial bullying or the weapon possession.

Another troubling episode occurred during a music lesson, where students were discussing nicknames. The boy was allegedly targeted with a nickname that combined a racial slur and his last name. When he reported it to his teacher, he claims she accused him of fabricating the story in front of his peers.

The complaint indicates that school staff reviewed video of an incident where a girl hit the boy. However, it alleges the school’s response was minimal, consisting only of a conversation with the girl and a warning not to repeat her actions.

According to the lawsuit, Dickerson and his wife met with Vice Principal Tamara Kuku to discuss potential solutions. They suggested addressing topics of racist language and informing the parents of the involved children. However, the family asserts that these recommendations were never implemented by the school.

After transferring from Oaks Christian, the boy enrolled at another school, yet the lawsuit claims he continues to face emotional and developmental difficulties stemming from his previous experiences. It also mentions prior allegations of discrimination at Oaks Christian, suggesting that the administration had been alerted to issues affecting black students even before Dickerson’s son attended.

The lawsuit references a 2020 petition aimed at addressing accounts of racism and discrimination at the school, which garnered over 8,100 signatures. Additionally, it points to another case involving a different black student who reportedly faced racial slurs, a mock slave auction, and threats of lynching while at Oaks Christian between 2021 and 2024.

Oaks Christian is a private, nondenominational Christian school that prepares students for higher education. According to the Post, its published tuition and fees can reach up to $47,930 annually for new students in grades five through twelve, depending on the payment plan.
