Tragic Passing of Singer Dylan Carter
Dylan Carter, a 24-year-old singer from South Carolina and a former contestant on “The Voice,” passed away on Saturday.
According to law enforcement reports to TMZ, he was involved in a single-car accident on April 25 around 11:42 p.m. on Lowcountry Highway and Smakes in Colleton County. While officials didn’t confirm his identity at the scene, The Local Voice shared news of his death on Facebook the following day. Moncks County mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also posted about the unfortunate incident, indicating that the former contestant had died in a vehicle crash.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the loss of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, a gifted musician, and a beloved member of our community,” the statement started.
“Dylan was the heart of our mission. He truly believed that every voice matters and embodied that belief every single day. Through his music, kindness, and infectious smile, he united people and made them feel acknowledged.”
Carter appeared on Season 24 of “The Voice” in 2024, where he garnered a four-chair turn from the judges during his blind audition. He performed Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You” as a tribute to his mother, who had passed away the previous year.
His coach on the show, Reba McEntire, expressed her sorrow for his loss through an Instagram Story, saying he was a “huge ray of sunshine” on The Voice.
“We are devastated, but take solace knowing he is now with his mother in heaven,” The Local Voice posted on Facebook.
They lauded Carter’s impact on the community, mentioning that he owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor, always striving to help others feel at home.
“We are immensely thankful for Dylan, for the love he shared with this community, and for the legacy he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and keep his mission alive in his honor. Please keep his family in your thoughts as they deal with this profound loss,” they shared.
Hamilton Jr. remarked on Carter’s “kindness and charm, which earned him great respect” and noted that his absence would be deeply felt.
Carter was scheduled to perform on April 27 in Moncks County, but that event has now been canceled.
