Activists Unveil Giant Transgender Flag in Yosemite
On May 21, 2025, left-wing transgender activists made a notable statement by hanging a large transgender flag at Yosemite National Park. The flag, measuring 55 by 35 feet, was displayed from the iconic El Capitan rock formation.
The act, described as a way to challenge the administration of Donald Trump, was led by a group of LGBTQ+ activists who aimed to showcase their pride. One activist, known as Patigonia, expressed, “Some people carry hatred. We carried the biggest trans pride flag to fly in the national park and to prove its point. Trans is natural.”
They criticized the Trump administration, arguing, “The Trump administration and others want to make you believe that being trans is unnatural, but species that can transition genders exist on every continent and ocean on Earth.”
They emphasized the need for visibility, stating, “They are trying to erase us from government websites and education systems and libraries, so we are raising this flag higher than ever, so every trans person knows they have people in their corner who love them. People will never be defeated.”
The demonstration followed a previous protest where activists raised an upside-down American flag on El Capitan to express their discontent with federal cuts initiated by President Trump and supported by Elon Musk.
Shortly after the flag was installed, Yosemite Park officials requested its removal just before noon. They stated, “Around 11:30 am PST, Yosemite Park officials ordered the Transpride flag to be taken down from the center of El Capitan, despite the rules not being broken in the deployment. For the safety of the team, the Transpride flag was taken down.”
