Trevor Noah Asks Whether Segregation Better ‘Solution’ Than Integration

Comedian Trevor Noah asked in a February 13 episode of his podcast whether integration was really the right thing for black Americans. With Trevor Noah. ”

Speaking to Princeton professor Luha Benjamin, he said, “I was curious about myself. This applies to America. I would go elsewhere in a different way as Finland is tied up – Do you think integration is the right move?”

Both he and Benjamin seemed to question whether the diversity measures were best for the US.

“Yeah – and now I'm separating two things because I know people in America that 'Well, of course, there was racism, there was segregation'. And I go, “Yeah, no, no, no, I'm separating them.” Those who are oppressed and somebody can't get a job, and someone can get a bank loan. Separate those who can't. Noah said, and repeated the previous points about Benjamin educating and preparing Finnish youths and preparing for the future.

Noah then continued to imply that Finland may have an advantage in a more “homogeneous” population. “Do you think part of the reason Finland can do that is because you've been to Finland? I've been to Finland. Do you know who's in Finland? Finnish. That's it – that's it!” he said.

Noah continued to promote the commonality that people felt when they were reflected and surrounded by others who were separated from other cultures.

“And there's the idea that, just as we're all heading in the same direction, we all know the meaning of what we do,” Noah said.

He portrayed his personal experiences and demonstrated his way of thinking.

“When I'm in a room with black people, I already have implicit trust because I know what a particular action, a word, and a vibe means,” Noah said.

“And you're in a room with another African – oh, already – now, even if you scream at me, I know the meaning of your cry. Italians say the meaning of Italian scream. Just like you know.” (Related: Cynthia Eribo, a black queer actress cast as Jesus Christ in “Jesus Christ Superstar”

“I would like to know if I think integration is the right solution on the other side of civil rights,” Noah suggested, acknowledging that it was a “loaded question.”

“No, I don't,” she replied.

“And if you understand that segregation and integration are not the only options, you don't think it would actually be controversial,” the professor argues, and Black Americans are “superist culture.” claimed it was integrated into.

“Why we are integrated into it, part of that is questioning what we are invited to. And again, when we consider the example of Finland being homogeneous, we have a national state. “It was imagined,” Benjamin argued, saying society needs to find better ways to “create solidarity.”
