Trucker warns danger of electric vehicle push: ‘Catastrophic’ supply chain risk

Trucking companies are warning of new challenges facing not only their industry but the economy as a whole as Biden pushes for green energy policies.

In an interview on FOX Business’ “The Big Money Show,” Mike Kucharski, co-owner of JKC Trucking, said that although he supports green energy integration, he finds the EPA’s new regulations “very frustrating.” He warned that the technology could be “potentially catastrophic.” ” price.

He warned that the trucking industry is particularly vulnerable to electric vehicles being pushed “too fast with little testing or data.”

“The No. 1 electric truck is too expensive, and the technology is being advanced too quickly with little testing or data,” he said..

Truckers need proven technology because when technology fails, the entire supply chain is crippled. Failure isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s devastating. And especially for America’s food supply chain, this is not an option. ”

In April 2023, President Biden announced aggressive regulations on tailpipe emissions as part of a broader effort to combat climate change and encourage Americans to purchase electric vehicles (EVs).

Tailpipe emissions regulations affect both light and heavy vehicles. The new standards for heavy-duty trucks are specifically aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of trucks starting with the 2027 model year.

The April ban followed one on nitrogen oxide pollution that raised similar concerns for small business truck drivers.

“The problem we have with trucks and heavy trucks is, number one, this mandate is a brand new technology and I support green energy. But I don’t agree with the EPA, so it’s very frustrating. “These regulations are not realistic,” Kucharski said.

He went on to list five major issues with EV trucks.

“Firstly, the costs are astronomical. Too high. Second, the infrastructure – the grid is not ready and there is a lack of charging stations. Thirdly, the testing and data This is currently being done. We need more testing data.”

“Fourth, concerns about driving range and range are real. Long-distance driving for electric trucks is not realistic. And fifth, the weight of batteries reduces payload capacity. There will be less goods and food delivered to the population.”

As a supporter of green energy, Kucharski said hybrid vehicles are a good option for those looking to integrate new regulations while preserving the health of the trucking industry.

“As you say, truckers need affordable hybrid trucks that have two power systems, because if one shuts down or breaks, the other will continue.” he said.
