President-elect Trump announced Wednesday that he will appoint Leandro Rizzuto Jr., a former ConAir executive and consul to Bermuda, as ambassador to the Organization of American States.
“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Leandro Rizzuto as Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS),” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.
“Over the years, Mr. Lee has successfully built Conair into one of America's most successful companies,” Trump continued. “Additionally, Mr. Lee also served as the U.S. Consul General to Bermuda.”
“Lee will be great as the next OAS ambassador!” he added.
The purpose of the OAS is “to strengthen peace and security in the hemisphere.” Promote representative democracy. Ensure peaceful resolution of disputes between members. ” According to the website.
Rizzuto, a longtime donor to President Trump, was selected in 2020 to be chief of staff at the U.S. Consulate General in Bermuda, a position that did not require Senate confirmation.
His previous nomination for ambassador to Barbados in 2018 stalled in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was not renominated. Rizzuto was facing intense scrutiny at the time after a CNN report found that he shared baseless conspiracy theories about Trump's political opponents during the 2016 presidential campaign.
