On Tuesday, former President Trump posted a letter from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Truth Social ahead of his planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later this week.
“I received the news of the assassination attempt on you and have since seen the footage and am deeply concerned.” Letter from President Abbas’ letter to President Trump stated: “There is no place for violence in a world of law and order.”
“Tolerance and respect for human life must prevail,” Abbas continued. “These despicable acts of assassination attempts and successful assassinations are a sign of weakness and a failure to understand peaceful means of resolving conflicts.”
In response, President Trump thanked Abbas in a letter and said “all will be well.”
“I look forward to meeting Bibi Netanyahu on Friday and looking forward even more to peace in the Middle East!” Trump Captioned post.
Trump survived an assassination attempt earlier this month at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot in the ear. The shooting has prompted calls from both parties to tone down political rhetoric.
The Palestinian Authority severed security ties with the United States and Israel following the introduction of the Middle East peace plan under the Trump administration.
“We have told our Israeli side that we will not have any relations with Israel or the United States, including security relations,” Abbas said at the time, according to Reuters.
Trump and Netanyahu are scheduled to meet on Friday after Netanyahu speaks to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Biden is also scheduled to meet with Netanyahu on Thursday.
