Trump Sees Potential for Deal in Ukraine Conflict
Former President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin is amenable to negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine. This statement comes in light of the Kremlin’s recent warning that any Western forces deployed to enforce a peace deal would be viewed as military targets by Russia.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump mentioned, “I say, ‘Vladimir, it’s time to stop. It’s time for this war to end.’” He conveyed his impression that Putin is “ready to make a deal.”
Even as negotiations are considered, the fighting persists in Ukraine and the territories occupied by Russia. The ongoing conflict has led to an increased focus on drone warfare, with both sides looking for improved methods to intercept unmanned aerial vehicles, sometimes utilizing older weaponry.
A video from East2West showcased a chaotic moment where a Russian soldier struggled to control a Soviet-era rotary machine gun, which eventually caused the weapon to swing out of control.
Reports indicate that the weapon, originally intended for the Soviet Mi-24 helicopter, is being adapted for ground defense against Ukrainian drones. No injuries were reported in the incident captured on video, although the details of the footage remain unverified.
In another development, Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova deemed any multinational forces sent in by Ukraine’s allies after a ceasefire as “legitimate military targets.” This comment was made following discussions in Paris about establishing such forces to support Ukraine’s military recovery post-conflict.
Additionally, Ukraine’s military announced its attack on the Balaklava thermal power plant, crucial for electricity generation in the Russian-occupied Crimea. Concurrently, Russia launched large-scale drone and missile attacks in the Odesa region, leading to three confirmed deaths as stated by regional officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy mentioned plans to enhance Ukraine’s capacity for producing missiles compatible with the US-made Patriot air defense system by the end of 2026.
