Former President Donald Trump told a convention of religious broadcasters on Thursday that he would protect religious freedom if he retakes the White House, telling a cheering crowd: “We will protect Christians” and “We will protect God in the public square.” I will protect it.”
President Trump made this comment during a speech on the National Religious Broadcasting System (NRB) to which all candidates, including President Biden, were invited. The NRB convention was held in Nashville, Tennessee.
President Trump said people of faith are increasingly being targeted by the left.
“Americans of faith are not a threat to our country. Americans of faith are the soul of our country,” President Trump said. “…remember, just as every fascist regime tried to collaborate and control the church, every communist regime in history tried to eradicate the church.” And in America , the radical left is trying to do both at the same time.
“…They want to tear down as many crosses as possible and cover them with social justice flags. “They want to remove the names of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson from schools and monuments. .”
Opinion polls show that Trump and Biden, the likely major party nominees, are tied nationally and in key battleground states.
“When I return to the White House, I will once again vigorously defend religious freedom, just as I have for four years,” Trump said. “Nothing was wrong, right? But we’re going to protect it in every way possible. We’re going to protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our government, and on every airwave. “And we’re going to protect Christians in the public I will protect God in the square.”
Mr. Trump made a unique appeal to religious broadcasters.
“I will never allow mainstream media or left-wing pressure groups to silence you, censor you, discriminate against you or in any way tell you what to say,” he said. “…There’s enough filth on our airwaves. American families need a haven where we can teach our children our values. We can’t have radical values forced on us.” Not.”
President Trump also promised to “create a new federal task force to combat anti-Christian bigotry.”
“Its mission is to investigate all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and persecution against Christians in the United States,” he said.
The former president briefly mentioned his faith.
“You know, the left is trying to shame Christians,” he said. “They try to shame us. I’m a very proud Christian. I was too busy fighting and taking arrows. I’ll save them for you.”
