The SALT deduction has been around since the ratification of the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1913, giving Congress the power to impose income taxes. However, it is highly controversial because it tends to subsidize liberal states that set higher income and property taxes. The Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 put a $10,000 cap on the SALT deduction.

In February, the House of Representatives Blocked The bill would temporarily double the limit on the SALT deduction.

Trump added that he would work with New York Governor Kathy Hockle (D-NY) and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) to secure funding to bring the state's economy “back to levels not seen in 50 years.”

“People are fleeing. Maybe we can get them to 'flee back,'” Trump added. “See you Wednesday at 7pm ET at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum!”
