Trump Drops Lawsuit Against IRS

On Monday, former President Donald Trump withdrew his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This came after he reached a settlement requiring the Justice Department to establish a fund for victims of government law violations.

Trump, along with his two eldest sons and the Trump Organization, had initiated a lawsuit earlier against the IRS. The case stemmed from an IRS contractor’s admission in January of leaking Trump’s tax documents to various media outlets.

Documents provided to the court indicate that the complaint was dismissed with prejudice. In this agreement, Trump and his family will receive a formal apology, though no monetary compensation will be awarded.

According to the Justice Department, “In return for the establishment of this fund, they have agreed to drop pending litigation and two administrative claims related to the unlawful Mar-a-Lago incident and the Russian collusion narrative.” A new Anti-Weapons Fund has been set up, amounting to $1.776 billion, aimed at addressing claims from those subjected to improper legal treatment.

The fund is comprised of five members chosen by the Attorney General and holds the authority to issue formal apologies as well as financial restitution to victims. One member of the fund is selected after consultation with Congressional leaders, while the President retains the right to remove members.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that government institutions should not be misused against any American. He added, “This settlement aims to facilitate a legal avenue for victims of unlawful conduct and weapons usage to make their voices heard and seek justice.”
