Victor Wembanyama pushes Jalen Brunson to the ground without a foul being called

Wembanyama’s Play Under Scrutiny in Game 3 of NBA Finals

In Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, the on-court behavior of Victor Wembanyama has come under scrutiny once more. This time, during the first half, Knicks All-Star guard Jalen Brunson was defending Wembanyama near the free-throw line when the towering center made physical contact, pushing Brunson down onto the court. Surprisingly, no foul was called, and the Knicks retained possession.

After the incident, Brunson confronted Wembanyama, who seemed to respond with a smile, before getting back to the game. This situation echoed an earlier moment from Game 2 when Brunson’s teammate, Jose Alvarado, tried to box out Wembanyama—who’s quite a bit taller—only to find himself entangled with the big man, which again resulted in no foul calls. Some observers believed that Wembanyama should have faced repercussions for his actions.

As the game progressed, the Spurs initially held a strong lead at 33-22 by the end of the first quarter. However, the Knicks, known for their resilience, turned the tables in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a seven-point lead. Brunson was a major factor in this shift, contributing 15 points, three assists, and one rebound on 5-of-11 shooting.

Meanwhile, Wembanyama wasn’t far behind, successfully making 6 of 10 field goals and tallying 15 points, along with four rebounds and three assists. As the Spurs aim to avoid a serious 3-0 deficit in the seven-game series, the Knicks are looking to carry their momentum into the second half and eye a potential playoff sweep in Game 4 on Wednesday night.
