New dashcam footage of the car accident that resulted in ESPN analyst Matt Miller losing his arm last month has prompted numerous questions.
Miller, who reports on the NFL Draft for ESPN, was involved in a severe car crash in Missouri last month. Though many details remain undisclosed, it is confirmed that he sustained various serious injuries, one of which necessitated the amputation of his arm.
Last week, the ESPN analyst revealed he would be leaving the company to prioritize his recovery, a significant development given the controversy surrounding him since the accident.
ESPN analyst resigns following amputation, AG investigating serious allegations
Since the incident, many fans have accused Miller of questionable activities in his fantasy football league. Earlier this month, the Missouri attorney general began an investigation into these claims, leading ESPN to place him on administrative leave over the weekend.
Sources have indicated that his leave is mainly for health reasons, but they also mentioned that questions raised by social media discussions and the attorney general’s inquiry will be addressed in due time. For now, he is expected to continue his recovery.
The crash footage shows Miller’s Ford Bronco crossing double yellow lines on a two-lane road, colliding with an oncoming truck, which appeared to evade him. This incident occurred on June 17 at about 3:50 p.m. in Jasper County.
ESPN analyst Matt Miller faces scrutiny following Reddit thread
Around the time of the accident, a Reddit thread gained traction, where numerous fans accused Miller of suspicious dealings in fantasy football leagues.
Reports indicate that Miller acted as the commissioner for 91 fantasy leagues the previous season. Numerous fans who had participated in leagues he hosted shared similar experiences.
He was set to initiate the league and even mentioned promoting it, suggesting that part of the profits would go to charity. However, after the league started and concluded, many players reported they were left unpaid for months.
Following the crash on June 17, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated for Miller, which he promoted on his X account. The initial goal was 100,000 yen, but it later increased to $55,000 after the initial target was reached.
Multiple fans reported that Miller had delayed payments from the league. Furthermore, after the attorney general’s investigation began on July 2, the GoFundMe campaign was inexplicably suspended, having raised $51,000.
In a post after the accident, Miller spoke about the severe injuries he endured, including numerous broken bones and the amputation of his left arm, linking to the GoFundMe for support.
Changes in Matt Miller’s latest communication
The Reddit thread and the ensuing outrage prompted the Missouri attorney general to solicit complaints from anyone with information, including non-residents.
Despite still being hospitalized and lacking a public comment on the ongoing matter, it’s clear that he’s not ignoring the situation.
Last weekend, the veteran analyst announced he would be departing from ESPN to focus on his recovery, while also limiting responses on his posts.
He stated, “The surgery to remove my left arm was successful, and I hope to eventually have a prosthetic. Additionally, surgeries on my femur and patella went well, and they managed to save my left leg. To give full attention to my healing, I will be taking an indefinite leave from ESPN. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Celebrities in the sports community, like Adam Schefter and former Saints player Michael Thomas, offered well-wishes in response to his post, which only allowed a select few to comment.
This reaction starkly contrasted with the previous updates regarding Miller’s accident, which had attracted a more critical audience, focusing on the investigation and the GoFundMe initiative.
Looking ahead, the GoFundMe campaign is likely to face further scrutiny, especially with the new footage surfacing.
