Warriors Weigh Options Beyond LeBron James
The Golden State Warriors have their eyes on LeBron James, but they’re not solely focused on him for their offseason plans.
As James contemplates his future ahead of an impressive 24th NBA season, there have been plenty of whispers linking him to the Warriors. However, Brett Siegel from ClutchPoints reports that Golden State has a backup approach lined up if securing James doesn’t pan out.
“If they miss out on LeBron, they’ll look at other players,” Siegel mentioned regarding the situation. This is crucial for a franchise eager to maximize the remaining years of Stephen Curry’s career. They’re not acting as if Curry wants out.
“Steph Curry isn’t leaving,” Siegel asserted. “There’s this talk about him needing to go to a team poised for a championship… But the Warriors—this is a team built to win alongside Steph.”
Curry echoed this sentiment recently at a golf event, sharing his strong connection with the Bay Area and the Warriors’ fans.
“I’m just thankful to represent one fan base, hopefully for my entire career,” Curry stated.
This should quell any doubts about Curry seeking another championship elsewhere. The pressing question is whether the Warriors can surround him with the necessary talent to make another title run feasible.
Of course, James would be the flashiest solution.
Curry has been open about his desire to play alongside players he’s battled against for years, and when asked about James at that golf event, he jokingly mentioned his interest in LeBron’s golf skills before shifting back to basketball.
“I’d love to play together,” Curry said. “I hope it happens, but he deserves the opportunity to take his time and make his decision.”
A Curry-James pairing would be one of the most unusual late-career partnerships in NBA history. However, the Warriors appear to realize the risks of waiting too long on a dream scenario.
Curry is 38 now, and other teams in the West aren’t slowing down. Golden State needs reinforcements, whether that’s James or another top player.
