Heartbreaking Lawsuit After MRI Accident
A Long Island woman, Adrian Jones McAllister, is grappling with the loss of her husband, Keith McAllister, who died after a tragic incident involving an MRI machine. She is now suing the Nassau Open MRI facility, claiming negligence for not ensuring her husband removed a heavy 20-pound chain from his neck before undergoing the scan.
The lawsuit was filed in Nassau County’s Supreme Court, detailing the horrific accident that took place last year. Sources indicated McAllister has suffered “severe personal, psychological, and emotional scars” due to her husband’s passing, leading to ongoing pain, disability, and disfigurement.
Reports state that Jones-McAllister witnessed her husband’s ordeal firsthand. She was present when he became trapped in the MRI machine due to the magnetic force of the equipment pulling the metal chain towards it.
On July 16, during a routine knee scan at the Westbury facility, McAllister and a technician reportedly spent nearly an hour trying to free him from the machine. Unfortunately, by the time he was released, he had suffered multiple heart attacks and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jones-McAllister remarked, tearfully, that this incident shouldn’t have occurred as the technician had seen her husband wearing the chain before. “They’ve talked about it before,” she said, expressing her frustration about the neglect.
The lawsuit, represented by attorney Andrew Finkelstein, additionally names East Coast Radiology, the leasing company Sun Enterprises, and facility owner GM Partners Westbury LLC in the complaint.
While the sum of damages sought is currently undisclosed, it highlights a significant concern; MRI machines operate with incredibly powerful magnetic fields that can attract metal with considerable force, posing serious risks to patients. Removing all metal objects prior to entering the MRI room is an essential safety protocol that is expected in healthcare settings.
