Rep. Young Kim (R-Calif.), one of three Korean-American women first elected to the House of Representatives in 2020, plans to retain her Orange County seat and return to the House. Republicans are one step closer to an overall majority.
NBC Los Angeles reported:
Mr. Kim, who won the same district by 14 percentage points two years ago, ran on a platform of supporting small businesses, tightening the southern border and cutting taxes.
…
Kim ran against former fire chief and union president Joe Carr. Mr. Carr worked for the Orange County Fire Department for more than 30 years.
Mr. Carr sought to protect reproductive freedom, raise taxes on big corporations, and increase funding for police departments, fire departments, and first responders. He unsuccessfully ran for a state Senate seat in 2022 and for the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2018.
Elsewhere in California, Republican incumbents lost their seats after Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.) survived a challenge in the Central Valley, where he was attacked by Democrats for supporting Trump's impeachment. It is considered likely that it will be maintained.
In another close race in Orange County, Republican incumbent Michelle Steel led Democratic challenger Derek Tran by 10,000 votes. Democrats had attacked Steele for its pro-life stance. That argument seems to have missed the point.
Republicans in California are employing “vote harvesting,” after Democrats used it to win seven seats in 2018.
