The Pelicans will likely have to adjust to life without Zion Williamson again in the near future.
Williamson, the team's star forward, announced that he will be sidelined indefinitely due to a left hamstring strain. No specific timetable has been given for the re-evaluation, but the team made the announcement after imaging tests on Saturday revealed the nature of the injury.
He has already missed four of the Pelicans' first 10 games this season, including three of the final four entering Monday's game against the Nets.
Williamson missed New Orleans' loss to the Magic on Friday with a strained left hamstring, just two days after scoring 29 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the Pelicans' loss to Cleveland.
However, he did not play in the two games leading up to the loss to the Cavaliers due to hamstring and quadriceps injuries, but head coach Willie Green told reporters at the time how the injuries occurred. Taka said he was not sure.
“He appeared [Sunday]”He said he felt a little something,” Green told reporters Monday. According to Sports Illustrated. “We wanted to see it for ourselves.”
Williams has been plagued by injuries throughout his NBA career, playing in 60 games in just two of six seasons and missing the entire 2021-22 season due to injury.
But last year, he played in 70 regular-season games, but injured the same left hamstring during a play-in game between the Pelicans and Lakers and missed the entire first game of the first-round series against the Thunder.
But Williamson, who missed the opening game due to illness, showed his potential, scoring 30 or more points in two games and scoring 29 points in Wednesday's game.
The Pelicans have struggled to replicate that success thus far after being eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs last year, starting just 3-7 and already missing Dejounte Murray, Trey Murphy III, Herb Jones, CJ McCollum is removed from the lineup.
They're already in 14th place in the Western Conference, with plenty of games left, ahead of the Jazz, who have just one win, and without Williamson and other injury concerns, they're still four minutes into the season. I haven't finished part 1 yet. New Orleans' trajectory is only getting worse.
