50 Cent Challenges NYC Mayoral Candidate’s Tax Plans
50 Cent, the rapper known as Curtis James Jackson III, voiced his dissatisfaction with New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s tax proposals during an Instagram response on Wednesday. This came after Mamdani’s appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” a podcast where he discussed his aims to increase corporate taxes and implement a flat tax increase for the wealthiest New Yorkers.
Mamdani had explained that he intends to target companies earning millions and proposed an additional 2% tax on individuals with incomes over $1 million. He suggested that this would amount to about $20,000 annually, which he considers a negligible amount when it comes to improving life for all New Yorkers.
“I know if 50 Cent sees this, he probably won’t be thrilled,” Mamdani mentioned. “But these changes are essential for better living conditions.” In his comments, he essentially framed the tax increase as a small cost for high earners.
50 Cent quickly reacted, questioning Mamdani’s legitimacy by saying, “Where did he come from? Who is this guy?” He also expressed discontent for Mamdani’s tax policy and jokingly offered $258,750 along with a one-way first-class ticket out of New York.
Earlier, 50 Cent had publicly supported Donald Trump due to his concerns about potential high tax rates under Joe Biden, stating that he felt Trump’s policies were more favorable.
While the discourse might seem divided, it highlights the varying perspectives on taxation and its impact on residents in New York City.
