Rosie O'Donnell Advises Trump to Watch Musicals to Understand Founding Fathers and LGBTQ+ Issues

Rosie O’Donnell’s Musings on Trump and Musical Theatre

Rosie O’Donnell recently made some, well, interesting comments regarding President Donald Trump and musical theatre. She suggested that perhaps he should watch some shows that give insight into his father’s influence and the formation of the gay community. Attending Christina Aguilera’s burlesque performance in London, O’Donnell expressed concerns about fascism in the U.S.

During a chat with attitude, outside London’s Savoy Theatre, she mentioned that Trump should check out Hamilton to better grasp the roots of American history and understand his role as president. O’Donnell seemed to feel that Trump often acts as if he’s on a reality TV show, as if everything is just for entertainment.

The comedian went further, encouraging Trump to take a break and watch Les Misérables and La Cage Aux Folles. She emphasized these productions could showcase how incredible gay people are and perhaps help lessen the alienation they often face.

O’Donnell also highlighted her solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans individuals affected by what she describes as a cruel government. In another part of the interview, she talked about a conversation with her
non-binary 12-year-old, noting that her child asked about O’Donnell’s own identity. Her response? She identified as an “OG lesbian,” leading to a light-hearted exchange that showcased her child’s sharp intelligence.

Although she sees progress in how younger generations understand their identities, O’Donnell reflected on the challenges from her own youth, contrasting it with current experiences. She lamented, “Fascism seems to have taken root in the U.S.,” claiming it feels like democracy is slipping away, and urged the LGBTQIA community to rise up against oppression.

This isn’t the first time O’Donnell has made such fiery remarks about leadership. Just last week, she criticized Trump on CBS, suggesting that the nation is on the brink of full-fledged fascism. O’Donnell, despite residing in Ireland, appears to remain deeply engaged with American political issues, frequently vocalizing her frustrations.
