Ana Navarro urges Gloria Gaynor to decline Trump's Kennedy Center recognition

Call to Reject Honor

ABC’s co-host, Anna Navarro, urged singer Gloria Gaynor to decline the Kennedy Center honor recently announced by President Trump. She described the president as a “stain” on the center’s reputation, emphasizing, “Don’t do that, Gloria!”

Gaynor, known for her hit “I Will Survive,” was named a recipient of this year’s honor, which acknowledges her artistic achievements. Navarro called for her to reconsider accepting the award.

In a Thursday Instagram post, Navarro reminisced about meeting Gaynor at a Miami concert a few years back, recalling a keychain gift that played “I Will Survive.” She humorously mentioned pressing the keychain until it ran out of battery, which, I guess, says something about her views during the Trump administration.

“Yesterday, Trump announced her as a Kennedy Center recipient,” Navarro noted. She continued, saying, “Women are goddesses and deserve everything good that comes their way. But it would be unfortunate for her to accept recognition from someone who has marginalized women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.”

Navarro wrapped up her thoughts by stating that the LGBTQ community significantly contributed to making Gaynor’s song an anthem. She reiterated her belief that Trump tarnishes the Kennedy Center’s prestige.

As of now, Gaynor hasn’t publicly addressed Navarro’s remarks. However, she did share a post on Instagram confirming her status as a Kennedy Center honoree.

Other recipients alongside Gaynor include actor Sylvester Stallone and singer George Strait, as well as Michael Crawford from Hello, Dolly! and the band Kiss.

Navarro has also expressed her discontent on Instagram about Trump receiving this year’s award, stating that his involvement undermines the legacy of the Kennedy Center.
