Daycare Worker Accused of Child Abuse in Georgia

A daycare worker in Georgia has been accused of child abuse after the father of a one-year-old shared a distressing image of his son’s injured face on Facebook.

The Bainbridge Police Department reported that Yvette Thurston, 54, was arrested last Monday. She faces multiple charges, including first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of first-degree child abuse. According to local news, her bail has been set at $44,000 across all charges, as noted by Prime Minister Anne Marie Emmons.

Thurston was taken into custody at the Decatur County Jail. She worked at Little Blessing Child Care, where the incident allegedly occurred. Cory Weeks, the father of the injured child, posted graphic images of his son, mentioning that the injury took place during the toddler’s first day at daycare.

In his Facebook post, Weeks recounted seeing another child in his son’s class who allegedly caused similar injuries with a plastic toy. He expressed shock after viewing daycare surveillance footage with law enforcement, stating, “We’ve never seen anything like this happen to such innocent children.”

While specific details surrounding the case remain vague, investigators have confirmed that they reviewed the daycare’s surveillance videos to assist in their inquiry. Local police indicated that the child received treatment at a nearby hospital.

A representative from the daycare facility has yet to issue a comment regarding the allegations.

Additionally, a report noted that the daycare is connected with God’s Bainbridge Church. After a Sunday service, church officials expressed they were instructed not to address the recent events publicly but encouraged unity among the congregation.

The investigation is ongoing, and Bainbridge Police have indicated they will be interviewing numerous individuals, including the church administration, as part of their fact-finding effort.
