Vernon Man Rescued from Playground Slide
A man found himself in quite a predicament at a playground slide in Vernon, Connecticut. On August 16th, around 4:30 PM, emergency responders were summoned to Northeast Elementary School after reports of a 40-year-old man stuck in a tube slide.
The first responders quickly assessed the situation and discovered the man with his head caught in the slide. Given the hot summer temperatures, he was likely feeling “extreme discomfort,” so they provided him with ventilation and oxygen to help him until further assistance arrived.
Additional resources, including a fire truck, were called to the scene to aid in the rescue. The firefighters utilized equipment from a truck stationed near the playground to stabilize the slide while they worked to free him. This involved removing part of the slide and eventually splitting it in half.
Fortunately, the man was freed within about 30 minutes. Interestingly, he chose to forgo emergency medical care after the rescue.
The Vernon Fire Department later shared that this was an unusual call for them but praised the professionalism displayed during the incident. Their Facebook post about the situation garnered quite a bit of attention, with many commenting about the strange ordeal. One user humorously noted their gratitude for the firefighters’ efforts in educating the public about slides, while another expressed sympathy for the man’s embarrassing situation.
