ICE director promises to increase the presence of immigration agents in Boston after Mayor Michelle Wu maintained the city’s sanctuary laws

Immigration Agents Plan to Increase Presence in Boston

Acting Ice Director Todd Lyons has promised to immigration agents that they will significantly increase their presence in Boston. This comes after Mayor Michelle Wu rejected the Trump administration’s directive to eliminate the city’s sanctuary laws.

“We certainly aim to inundate the area… particularly in sanctuary jurisdictions,” Lyons stated during an appearance on “The Howie Car Show” on Wednesday.

He emphasized that Boston and Massachusetts have chosen to maintain their sanctuary status, arguing, “Sanctuary doesn’t equate to safer streets. It just means more criminal aliens are present.”

This situation unfolded after Mayor Wu publicly dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondy’s demand to repeal the city’s Sanctuary Urban Act or risk losing federal funding.

“Stop attacking our cities as a way to deflect from your administration’s failures. Unlike the Trump administration, Boston adheres to the law. What do we stand for?” she stated.

Lyons criticized the mayor’s stance, asserting that the sanctuary policies put citizens at greater risk since local law enforcement can overlook ICE detainees.

“That’s a recurring issue we’ve encountered in various jurisdictions,” Lyons noted.

He mentioned that there are many dedicated officers in the Boston Police Department who genuinely want to collaborate with immigration authorities on these matters.

“Local leaders need to engage with the law enforcement personnel on the ground,” he said. “Many of these criminal aliens are still committing offenses that local law enforcement must handle.”
