Anderson Cooper Critiques Letitia James Over Trump Focus
On Thursday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper criticized New York Attorney General Letitia James, questioning her earlier commitment to target President Trump as “not a very good look.” Paul, a member of the Democratic Party, described the allegations against her as an act of “political retribution.”
Cooper recalled a conversation James had with a community activist shortly after her 2018 election win. He asked if she was ready to take legal action against the then-sitting president. “She replied, ‘Oh, we’re definitely going to sue him. It’s going to be really messy. He’s going to know my name personally,'” Cooper noted during a panel discussion.
He added, “So for someone who’s just been elected, who just campaigned, and probably hasn’t done a thorough examination of the evidence, that doesn’t really reflect well.”
James has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Organization, claiming it inflated the valuation of its real estate assets, resulting in a judgment against Trump and significant fines amounting to hundreds of millions.
However, the $355 million penalty was overturned by a higher court in August after Trump successfully appealed the ruling.
On the same day, James faced federal bank fraud charges in Virginia. She asserts that the prosecution is politically motivated and firmly denies any wrongdoing.
“These accusations are baseless, and the president’s own public statements demonstrate that his only goal is political retribution at all costs,” James stated.
