Poll Reveals Voter Sentiment on Trump’s Economic Policies

Nearly half of registered voters now perceive President Trump’s economic strategies as detrimental, according to a recent poll that indicates many place the blame for the current economic climate squarely on Republican shoulders.

The survey found that 46% of respondents feel they have been adversely affected by Trump’s economic policies. In contrast, only 15% believe that the administration has made no changes and that the situation has improved. This resonates with findings from a December 2024 poll, where 47% attributed negative fiscal impacts to the Biden administration, while just 17% noted positive contributions from Democratic policies.

Trump’s approval rating has dipped to 41%, an 8-point decline since March, while disapproval has risen to 58%, a 7-point increase in the same timeframe.

This poll arrives at a time when the White House and Congressional Republicans are trying to navigate affordability issues, especially after Democrats recently secured significant wins in off-year elections in New Jersey and Virginia.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent responded to concerns during an interview, stating, “We’re not going to pretend we don’t understand how the American people feel, unlike what we saw from the Biden administration.” He commented further, calling previous efforts by Democrats a “vibe session” and insisted that current measures are in place to reduce prices.

Interestingly, the economy, once a strong point for Trump during his initial term, now poses a considerable risk for the Republican Party in upcoming midterms and the 2028 presidential race.

Voter sentiment indicates that Trump is viewed as more responsible for the economic situation than Biden, with a ratio of nearly two-to-one (62% to 32%). This includes 42% of Republicans who supported Biden’s election this November.

As for economic evaluations, over three-quarters of voters (76%) describe the economy as “fair” or “poor,” an increase from 70% at the close of Biden’s tenure and 67% in July.

Democrats are actively campaigning against Trump’s economic policies, suggesting that they plan to address issues such as high tariffs on imports.

In the poll, respondents expressed greater confidence in the Democrats’ ability to tackle various economic challenges. Specifically, they believe Democrats have superior plans for raising prices (53% to 43%), increasing wages (55% to 41%), reducing healthcare costs (59% to 38%), and generating jobs (49% to 47%).

Despite these concerns, there are some positive economic signs for the Trump administration, such as a 3.8% GDP growth in the second quarter and an unexpected addition of 119,000 jobs in September.

The Fox News poll was conducted among 1,005 registered voters between November 14 and November 17, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. It was carried out by Beacon Research, which leans Democratic, and Shaw & Company Research, a Republican firm.
