Iran seeks quick trials and executions amid protests, ignoring Trump’s warning

In a recent report, Iran’s Supreme Court chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, has urged for swift trials and executions of individuals detained during the ongoing anti-government protests. This announcement follows a significant increase in the death toll related to these protests, which has reached at least 2,571 according to the Human Rights Defenders News Agency based in the U.S. Some estimates put the figure at over 3,000, suggesting that the true number could be even higher.

Mohseni-Ejei emphasized urgency in handling the situation, stating in a video shared by Iranian state television, “If you want to do something, you have to act quickly. Delaying even a couple of months will dilute the impact of these actions.”

President Trump, in an interview that aired on CBS News, expressed strong disapproval of Iran’s potential executions, stating, “If they proceed with such actions, we will take very strong measures.” He highlighted the importance of allowing protests, differentiating between voicing discontent and committing widespread violence. The situation, he noted, “is not going to end well” if Iran continues down this path.

Furthermore, Trump made a call for the Iranian people to persist in their protests, declaring, “Save the names of those who harm you; they will pay a heavy price.” He announced that discussions with Iranian officials are on hold until the violence against protesters ceases.

Overall, the tension between the U.S. and Iran continues to rise amid this ongoing crisis, as concerns for human rights and public safety intensify.
