National Guard called in after an ICE officer's finger reportedly bitten off

Incident in Minneapolis Involves Alleged Assault on Federal Officer

On Saturday, Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, shared a shocking image on social media depicting a severed finger belonging to a federal officer, reportedly bitten off during protests in Minneapolis. She stated, “In Minneapolis, rioters attacked law enforcement officers and one of them bit off an HSI employee’s finger. He’s going to lose a finger.”

The post included a photo of two individuals in custody, though it wasn’t clear who among them allegedly caused the injury. Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but the unrest has escalated following the deaths of two individuals during an immigration enforcement effort in the city.

Related Arrests and Protests

Hours before McLaughlin’s post, video footage surfaced of a Border Patrol agent fatally shooting a man armed with a handgun amidst a chaotic scene. According to Homeland Security officials, the 37-year-old suspect aggressively confronted officers while armed and resisted arrest. Describing the situation, they remarked that it seemed like an individual intended to cause severe harm to law enforcement.

Law Enforcement Response

A law enforcement spokesperson noted that around 200 people converged at the scene, blocking and attacking officers. They emphasized the need for support from state and local governments and reiterated that any interference with law enforcement will not be tolerated and those individuals will be arrested.

The Minnesota National Guard announced additional troop deployment to assist local authorities amidst the escalating tensions. Their role includes securing federal buildings and supporting various local agencies when necessary.
