Government Conducted Secret Operations to Deliver Starlink Internet to Protesters in Iran

U.S. Smuggles Starlink Devices into Iran Amid Protests

According to U.S. officials, thousands of Starlink internet devices were smuggled into Iran by the Trump administration following a severe crackdown on protesters by the Islamic regime in January. Reports indicate that, after Iranian security forces killed thousands and curtailed internet access, around 6,000 satellite internet kits from Elon Musk’s Starlink were introduced into the nation. This is reportedly the first documented instance of Starlink systems reaching Iran directly.

The negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program are ongoing. While the U.S. aims to close all avenues for Iran to develop nuclear weapons, Iran maintains that its uranium enrichment is necessary for civilian uses. President Trump has consistently warned that if these negotiations falter, a military attack could be on the horizon, with naval and air assets already stationed nearby.

Reports reveal that the State Department had procured nearly 7,000 Starlink devices in the months prior to the protests, aiming to aid activists in bypassing Iran’s strict internet controls. Officials indicated that funds from other Iranian internet freedom initiatives were redirected to finance this shipment.

While possessing a Starlink device is illegal in Iran and can lead to significant prison sentences, numerous Iranians have still acquired these devices to communicate beyond government scrutiny, as noted in the report. Authorities are reportedly hunting down Starlink devices in homes and on rooftops.

The protests, which began in December, were initially sparked by the crumbling economy and inflation, but soon evolved into broader anti-regime demonstrations, receiving backing from figures like Reza Pahlavi, the exiled crown prince of Iran.

Death toll estimates following the crackdown vary substantially. However, two senior officials from Iran’s health ministry reportedly told Time magazine that the internal count suggested nearly 30,000 fatalities occurred around January 8 and 9 alone.

Iran has accused the U.S. and Israel of inciting the unrest. As unrest escalated, President Trump communicated with protesters, assuring them of support and urging them to maintain their resistance against the regime.

Trump also cautioned Iran that if talks don’t yield results, a military response even more severe than past attacks on its nuclear facilities could be imminent.

After a recent private discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated that “other than my insistence on continued negotiations with Iran to see if a deal could be reached, no definitive agreement was achieved.” He mentioned, “If we can’t secure an agreement, we will have to wait to see the outcome. The last time, Iran opted not to make a deal and faced significant consequences.”

Neither the White House nor the State Department has yet responded to inquiries regarding these developments.
